Who Doesn’t Enjoy Spontaneity?

Writer: Artilya KArtilya K

Have you ever did something so wild and crazy that you even shocked yourself?!? Well like most I have done many things that I think back on now and say to myself “What were you thinking?” In this case, it was pretty tame but very spontaneous for me at the time. I booked a flight on a Friday, left on a Saturday morning, and came back on a Sunday. So now you are thinking “Well what did she do?” First, let me tell you I do not like to be hot. I prefer cold over heat and although I may complain it’s too cold, I’d rather be cold then hot. My motto is: You can put on as many clothes as you want to make yourself warm, but if you’re hot, once you get naked that’s it! You will still be hot! With that being said, I wanted to see some mountains and snow, so I booked a trip for my friend and I to Denver, Colorado.

I had never been to a Midwest state besides Texas, and I really do not count that because it was for Air Force boot camp, and I did not get to explore San Antonio while I was there. Leaving BWI airport bright and early at 8am, I was excited and nervous to see what this trip would be like. Of course, I am a planner so I planned at least two adventures to fill the time and anything else would just happen.

As our plane landed at 1030am mountain time, my friend and I quickly grabbed our backpacks and almost ran to Hertz to get our rental car. The crisp mountain air hit us like a refreshing thin veil as we hopped in the rental and headed to our first stop- a sleigh ride! Now I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the place we went to, but I do remember the name of the horses were Captain and Morgan Lol

The ride was about an hour and half long and it was unusually warm considering we were high up in the mountains and the ground was covered in snow. The guy steering the carriage was very nice and answered all of our questions about Denver and the horses. The ride was serene and peaceful as I sat quietly feeling the soft breeze kiss me across the face. I could see myself living there for a year or two. Not too long though because I would get sick of the snow even though I like the cold Lol We thanked the carriage guide and took pictures with Captain and Morgan before moving on to our next adventure.

Driving down the mountain was a bit scary because of how the roads winded around and in some places, there were no guardrails. As we finally made it down the mountain I looked forward to this next place because my nerves were shot! Stranahan’s Whiskey Distillery & Cocktail Bar is a great place to visit if you like whiskey. To be honest, I am not a whiskey fan, but I still wanted to go to the distillery to try it. My friend and I were slightly late to our 2pm scheduled tasting because we got stuck waiting on a train to pass eye roll The guide was very nice and still allowed us in. We tried about 4-5 different whiskeys ranging from light to strong. I toughed it out but man! Whiskey puts hair on your chest! The other members of the group that we were doing the tasting with were just as entertaining as the host and the whole experience was great. I thought to myself I probably won’t ever do this again…but I did. (That story is for another day.)

You have to try a bison burger while you are out there! It was so good!!! The sad part is I cannot find the restaurant where I had it. Enjoy this picture though Lol

After an adventurous day, we headed to the hotel and relaxed. Fairfield by Marriott Denver Tech Center North is where we stayed. If you are a “Marriott Snob” like I am, then it is a decent Marriott to stay for the night. It is in a nice area and fairly cheap. Roughly $90 when I stayed there back then (according to receipt) but looking at the site it is now well over $100 for a one night’s stay. Side Note Funny how I found the receipt for the hotel but not for the bison burger place. Go figure! Maybe my friend paid and that’s why…

Anyway, back to the story at hand. After a well-rested night, we ate breakfast at a place called Snooze. It was the typical breakfast place but served alcohol early in the morning. (Hey! Don’t judge me! I was on a trip Lol) After breakfast, it was off to the airport and back to reality.

So, there you have it folks! My spontaneous trip to Denver, Colorado. Tell me what you think in the comments.
